Things To Do Around Lion Quays Resort

Local Heritage

Less than 4 miles away from Lion Quays are two wonderful examples of historic castles. Chirk Castle is a magnificent medieval fortress owned by the National Trust. Whittington Castle is the only community owned castle in the UK. With a rich history spanning 3000 years, there is always plenty happening at Whittington Castle. From live history events to ghost vigils, these glorious castles guarantee a fun day for the whole family!

Another wonderful and unusual example of local heritage here in Ostwestry is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Stunning local scenery, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a magnificent infrastructure that carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee. The 18-arched stone and cast iron design is a beautiful spot for exploring and taking in the views.

Get Close To Nature

Here at Lion Quays we are surrounded by natural beauty. With the wonderful Llangollen canal right on our door step, we think we’re rather lucky. However, want to take a day trip a little further afield? Shropshire and North Wales are home to breathtaking sights and experiences including the tallest waterfall in Wales. If it’s fresh air you’re after and love a bit of exploring, there’s a world of walking and hiking opportunities around the area. So go on, get on out there!

Days Out

If you fancy a day out you’re spoilt for choice here in the countryside.The UK’s largest designer outlet Cheshire Oaks is just a 35 minute drive away.

Bringing the kids with you? Chester Zoo, is just up the road and assures a fantastic day out.

The British Ironwork Centre is also just a couple of miles away and offers free entry 7 days a week.

Take a trip into the local town, Llangollen. With a lot to do, this idyllic town is home to some lovely shops, bars and restaurants.

Golf Breaks

Henlle Golf Club is just a minute drive from the Lion Quays Resort. If you fancy a walk through the countryside, it's a short ten-minute walk from us.

Golf holiday packages are available from Sunday to Thursday, all year round, except for the Christmas and New Year period. Subject to availability.

The standard package can be increased if required; a second or third night can be added and extra golf maybe arranged, at other courses here in the beautiful Welsh Marches.
